Michigan's free, high-quality Pre-K program for income-eligible 4-year-olds — offered right here at Troy Babes in Toyland.
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan's state-funded preschool program for 4-year-olds who are at risk of entering kindergarten unprepared. Administered by the Michigan Department of Education, GSRP provides free, high-quality early childhood education to eligible families across the state.
Troy Babes in Toyland Educational Center is proud to be an approved GSRP provider. Our GSRP classroom delivers the same warm, nurturing, play-based learning environment that families have trusted us for — now available at no cost to qualifying families.
GSRP is designed to close the school readiness gap by giving children the academic, social, and emotional foundation they need to succeed in kindergarten and throughout their school years. Research consistently shows that children who participate in high-quality preschool programs like GSRP are more likely to graduate high school, attend college, and lead productive lives.
Our GSRP program operates during the regular school year and follows the same loving, child-centered philosophy that guides everything we do at Babes in Toyland. Every child deserves a great start — and GSRP makes that possible for families who need it most.
Our GSRP classroom uses a research-based, state-approved curriculum aligned with Michigan's Early Childhood Standards of Quality, focusing on literacy, math, science, social studies, and the arts.
GSRP classrooms maintain a maximum of 16 children with a lead teacher and assistant teacher, ensuring every child receives individualized attention and support.
We nurture the whole child — building self-regulation, empathy, friendship skills, and the confidence children need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond.
Children are assessed using state-approved tools throughout the year so teachers can tailor instruction to each child's unique strengths and areas for growth.
Families are essential partners in their child's education. GSRP includes regular family events, home visits, and open communication between teachers and parents.
GSRP is specifically designed to close the school readiness gap. Children leave our program with the academic, social, and emotional skills to succeed from day one of kindergarten.
