About the Program
What Is the ASQ?
The Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ) is a trusted, research-based developmental screening tool used by childcare providers and pediatricians across the country. It helps parents and caregivers track a child's development and identify any areas where a child might benefit from extra support.
At Troy Babes in Toyland, we use the ASQ as part of our commitment to the whole child. Screenings are completed at regular intervals and are always done in partnership with you — the parent.
The questionnaire takes about 10–15 minutes to complete and covers five key areas of development. Your input as a parent is the most important part of the process.

Five Areas of Development
Each ASQ questionnaire covers these five developmental domains.
Communication
How your child uses language — babbling, words, sentences, and understanding what others say.
Gross Motor
Large muscle movements like rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, running, and jumping.
Fine Motor
Small muscle skills such as reaching, grasping, stacking blocks, and using a crayon.
Problem Solving
How your child explores objects, plays with toys, and figures out how things work.
Personal-Social
How your child interacts with others, plays, and takes care of themselves.
How the Screening Works
Scheduled by Age
Your child's teacher will let you know when a questionnaire is due based on your child's age.
You Complete It
Fill out the short questionnaire at home or at the center — it only takes about 10–15 minutes.
We Review Together
Our staff reviews your responses and shares the results with you in a friendly, supportive conversation.

What is the ASQ?
The Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ) is a series of parent-completed developmental screening tools. It helps identify children who may need further evaluation for developmental delays in areas like communication, motor skills, and social development.
Why does the center use ASQ screenings?
Early identification of developmental concerns gives children the best chance to receive support and services when they can make the biggest difference. We use ASQ as part of our commitment to each child's whole development.
How long does it take to complete?
Most parents complete the questionnaire in about 10–15 minutes. You can fill it out at home or at the center — whichever is most convenient for you.
What happens after I complete the form?
Our staff will review your responses and share the results with you. If any areas suggest a need for follow-up, we will discuss next steps together and can connect you with appropriate resources.
Is the ASQ a diagnosis?
No. The ASQ is a screening tool only — it is not a diagnosis. A score that suggests follow-up simply means we want to take a closer look. Many children who screen positive develop typically with no concerns.
How often will my child be screened?
Screenings are completed at regular intervals based on your child's age, following the ASQ schedule. Your child's teacher will let you know when a new questionnaire is due.
